Custom Forging & Machining

Dyson's long history began in 1884 as a specialty forge shop. Today, we can reshape a wide variety of metals to comply with customer requirements. Our combination of Hammers, Mechanical & Hydraulic Presses, Upsetters, Benders and Hot Parts Formers allows us to produce your forging order in the most cost effective manner. Extensive in-house machining is used for finishing operations. Forgings range from 1/2 lb. to 10,000 pounds...in quantities of 1 to 100 million pieces. All forging grades of material can be supplied, certified to most ASTM, SAE, ASME, Military/Federal, ISO, AASHTO and custom specifications.

In addition to our large fasteners, Dyson Is known for its upset and open die forgings made to customer specifications.

Forgings up to 15,000 lbs. total weight are routinely produced on closed die upset, flat die hammer, flat die press, and automatic manipulator press equipment.

In-house heat treating, special torch cutting machines, automatic lathes, sand blasting and finishing equipment fulfill your secondary requirements.

• Forged Shape: symmetrical - can have multiple steps.
• Forgings can have pierced Internal shapes.
• Minimum Quantity: One Piece.

Draw Press / Hammer Sizes

• Forged Diameter: 3" to 20".
• Forged Length: 3" to 30 ft.
• Maximum Weight: 10,000 lbs.
• Forging Shape: any - can have multiple steps.
• Forgings can have pierced internal shapes.
• Minimum Quantity: One Piece.

Parts Former Sizes

• Forged Diameter: 1/2" to 4".
• Forged Length: 3/8" to 6".
• Forged Shape: symmetrical - can have multiple steps.
• Forgings can have pierced Internal shapes.
• Minimum Quantity: 20,000 Pieces.

Grades

Most material grades including Carbon, Alloy & Stainless steels plus exotics such as titanium, Monel, Inconel, Nltronlc, brass, bronze and tool steels. Common forging specifications include ASTM-A668, MIL-S-24093 and MIL-S-23284. Dyson can also produce forgings in other specifications including ASTM, SAE, ASME, Military & Federal standards, ISO, AASHTO and custom specs.

Thread Options

• Standard threads are UNC, 8UN &UNF. Class 2A or 3A. Right Hand.
• Right hand and left hand threads available.
• Root and Crest radius (UNR & UNJ) are available.
• Specials include interference fit, ACME, Buttress, Whitworth, Pipe, tapered and custom.
• Threads are chaser cut (thru 6") as a standard. Available options are single point cut (thru 20"), rolled (thru 6") or ground.
• Thread lengths can vary based on customer need.
• Standard thread runout Is 1/2" to 3/4". Shorter runout is available.
• Internal holes can be either tapped or single point threaded.
• Blunt start threads are available.

Machine Options

Forgings can have any surface forged, machined or ground. Machined broaching and deep hole drilling are also available. We can work to your required tolerances and finishes.

Coating Options

Dyson uses only qualified coaters and can offer most finishes including HDG, Epoxy, mechanical galv, Zinc, Cadmium, Chrome, Black Oxide, Phosphate, Nickel and Copper.
